STANDARDS | Developer Content Standards – Developer Portal - Support

Purpose

Kongregate’s Content Standards help ensure that games available on the platform provide a safe, fair, and lawful experience for players and developers.

All games uploaded to the platform must comply with these standards.

Failure to comply may result in actions such as:

game removal
feature restrictions
developer account suspension

Prohibited Content

The following types of content are not allowed on the platform.

Illegal Content

Games must not include or promote content that violates applicable laws or regulations, including:

illegal activities
unauthorized gambling where prohibited
distribution of illegal goods or services
content that violates sanctions or export controls

Intellectual Property Infringement

Developers must not upload games that use content without appropriate rights or licenses.

Examples include:

copyrighted music, artwork, or code without permission
unauthorized use of trademarks or branding
copied game mechanics or assets that violate intellectual property rights
likenesses of real people without approval

Developers are responsible for ensuring they have the legal right to distribute their game and for all content contained within the game.

Malware or Malicious Software

Games must not contain code that:

installs unauthorized software
collects data without disclosure
interferes with player devices
attempts to exploit platform infrastructure

Security violations may result in immediate removal.

Harmful or Abusive Content

Games must not include content that promotes:

harassment or bullying
threats of violence
hate speech or discrimination
exploitation of vulnerable individuals

Kongregate evaluates such content in context to protect player safety.

Deceptive Monetization

Games must not engage in deceptive or misleading practices, including:

hidden charges
undisclosed in-game purchases
misleading advertising
manipulative monetization systems targeting minors

Players should clearly understand what they are purchasing.

Age-Sensitive Content

While Kongregate accounts may not be created by anyone under age 13, we urge developers to be mindful about any content targeting younger audiences up to age 18 and require that any such content must comply with applicable youth protection standards, including:

appropriate content ratings (by adding a voluntary age rating in the game description)
responsible monetization practices
restrictions on sensitive themes
